The war between Apple and Palm seems to be over. In the latest software update for the Palm Pre (webOS 1.3.1), the iTunes syncing feature is missing. Palm and Apple have been going at each other for a while now over whether or not Palm is allowed to sync its “iPhone killer”, Pre with iTunes. What Palm did was design the Pre’s software so that iTunes recognizes it as a valid device such as an iPhone or iPod, allowing music and media integration.

Each time, Palm canceled out Apple’s attempt to push out the Pre with Software Updates, but it was no use, Palm always found a way back in. Between this back and forth war, Palm even complained to the USB Implementers Forum saying that Apple was illegally using the Vendor ID number in order to exclude non-Apple products from syncing with iTunes. Of course, Apple won but that still didn’t stop Palm from coming back for more. This time, it seems that Apple finally won the battle, but knowing Palm and its competitive past with Apple, they’re planning something bigger and better for iTunes.
