Fried turkey is delicious…and dangerous. Over the years, we’ve seen countless videos of houses set ablaze and the holidays ruined thanks to careless mistakes or lack of proper research. Yet the siren’s call of incredibly moist and flavorful turkey still lures many a cook to a Thanksgiving Day disaster.
Butterball, provisioner of all things turkey, has come up with a safe solution to presenting that perfect holiday turkey come Thanksgiving dinner time. The Butterball Indoor Electric Turkey Fryer, is a lean mean turkey frying machine. Built by Masterbuilt, outdoor cooking equipment manufacturer, the fryer can handle whole turkeys weighing up to 14 lbs., which can feed approximately 8-10 people.
The fryer is made of stainless stain with a porcelain-coated inner pot that’s dishwasher safe. It can also be used for boiling and steaming if you ever get the urge to do a massive seafood boil. The fryer also features a folding lid with a window and grease filter, so chefs can keep a close eye on all the frying action. At 18.1 x 16.7 x 16.8-inches, the little box will comfortable fit on your kitchen counter without taking up too much space and it should be easy to store once the bird is cooked.
Since most turkey frying accidents occur from copious amounts of boiling hot oil spilling and catching fire, the Butterball Fryer only uses about two gallons. Another safety precaution is the adjustable thermostat which prevents overheating. There’s also a digital timer to make sure you have a perfectly fried bird each and every time. Clean up is a snap due to the drain valve. When the cooking is done and the oil has cooled, simply open the valve and drain the used oil into a container and dispose of it safely.
Even though it’s a turkey fryer, don’t be afraid to use this bad boy for other deep fried goodness like chicken, Cornish hens or funnel cakes and doughnuts. Trust me people, there is nothing better than a homemade funnel cake or doughnut, especially jelly-filled. Retailing for $159, it’d be a shame to only use this gadget twice a year.
