Google is readying itself for world domination. Even before their Android OS came out, there were rumors that Google was looking into their own smartphone, but we soon learned that Google wasn’t interested in hardware, until now. There have been reports from multiple sources that Google is looking into creating their own smartphone, both hardware and software, and this time it’s actually true. While playing a big role in the creation of the DROID, Google still felt that the hardware design, and many of the application designs were out of their hands, so they decided to create their own device, bringing the full Android Platform upfront.
The Google Phone is a great idea because of how similar to Apple it’s becoming. This could be the true iPhone killer, or perhaps iPhone competitor. The Gphone will be the face of Google’s plan to dominate the tech industry. Think about it, they have everything else , Voice(Calling Service), Wave (web application and computing platform), Chrome (Web Browser) and the number one search engine in the world, the smartphone market is the only one they really haven’t penetrated. Some things we’d like to see in the Gphone are Picasa for easy photo sharing, Google Maps (possibly with GPS), a music player (maybe to go along with their rumored music service), and of course Gmail.
In a second article, TechCrunch reported that Google’s Gphone may lack traditional voice services, instead offering up data services and VoIP for making calls. The report also noted that AT&T is currently the primary service provider looking to take the Gphone with a $20/month standalone data plan. Hopefully, AT&T’s network holds out from the already heavy blows from iPhone data customers. As of now, the Gphone is an amazing idea, another great smartphone, giving customers a second option for a revolutionary phone all under one phone service provider. As for the Gphone itself, it was originally planned for Google to release it by the holidays but was moved to a later release date, early next year.
