NEC is famous for its retro gaming controllers but now they’ve come out with something that is likely to be a big hit in the tech world. Just yesterday, NEC opened the lid on their latest project, the first remote control that runs without batteries. Working alongside Soundpower Corp., NEC has managed to create a vibration based power generating device, built into the remote. The power generating device is connected to a microcomputer and a power supply controller which gets the circuits close enough to generate a small amount of power on even the slightest amount of electricity.
This is a great way to expand the market for battery development and create new technologies that help gadgets become smaller and a lot thinner. This “Battery-less” remote control could easily be applied to other small electronics and could also be just as big as the Lithium Ion battery when it first came out. The remote was officially announced November 17th , so expect it to be seen around (in Japan) pretty soon. It is currently on display at the Embedded Technology 2009 in Japan.
