Barnes & Nobles competitor to the Amazon Kindle, The Nook, has apparently sold out. The New York Times is reporting that B&N didn’t think they’d get such a hit on their hands and are now saying they don’t have enough for everyone this holiday season.

Like Barnes & Noble, this is a big surprise to me as well. While the price is competitive with the Kindle, I didn’t think the Nook had enough to compete with the Kindle’s popularity and new print and commercial ads. To help those who might get upset at B&N for not having enough Nooks, (sounds like Nukes when you say it out loud), Barnes & Nobles is offering place holder certificates for those still interested in buying the device. The next batch of shipment will begin on January 4th, 2010.
