Facebook has hit an all-time high in terms of popularity and I’ve been using it now more than ever for work. But the more I’m on the site, the more I notice things that bother me about some of the users. Many of them don’t know there are some universal signs of etiquette they need to abide by, otherwise they’re just annoying their friends and followers. Here’s a few things I’ve noticed that many of these people need to stop doing.

Life Quotes

I was almost guilty of this a few days ago but did not post anything. I see tons of friends question their life or a put general quote about something and then have their stalkers or “people who will comment on anything” write a comment about how awesome they are or how much that quote means to them. Once in a while is okay, but when you’re trying to be philosophical on every status message, it’s just annoying.

Cryptic Messages/ 1-on-1 Messages

Yeah, we’ve all seen it at some point. Something that’s only between a few people, that no one else can relate to. If you want to write a cryptic message, write it on that person’s wall instead of annoying everyone with it. The same goes for 1-on-1 messages. If you’re going to go back and forth about something, don’t use the status bar, write it on their wall or better yet, get your lazy ass off the chair and talk to them in person.

Countdowns

“My birthday is only 3 days away.” Messages that countdown a birthday or anything else for that matter should never be on a Facebook status message. If you’re friends really care about your birthday, they’ll know when it is. And no one really cares about the next time you’re going to see your boyfriend from college.

Same Pictures in a Thousand Angles

Girls are guilty of this, most of the time. They take their cameras and take a few hundred pictures of them or friends in the same pose but from different angles. It’s still the same picture folks! Unless there’s something you absolutely need to show that’s on the other side of your face, no one cares about your left and right cheek. So ladies, next time you pick up your camera to take FB pics, just think about the people you’re annoying and for everyone’s sake, just take one pic.

Shitting on Co-Workers/Boss/Job

I still don’t understand why people don’t get it that employers and companies check Facebook to see if their employees are sane people. Imagine their surprise if they find you shitting on them on Facebook. I’d fire someone on the spot, probably by leaving a comment that says “Hey Todd, don’t bother coming to work tomorrow, cuz you’re fired!” That’ll make them think about why they wrote, “My boss is a jackass” when he asked you to finish your assignment.

Applications

I’m noticing more and more people using certain applications on Facebook. It’s totally fine but one thing to keep in mind is the number of applications these people use. Some are using upwards of 5 or 10 applications. I don’t use any applications on Facebook because many of them are time consuming and ask for information that I don’t want to give out. Some of these applications are just straight bizarre and weird. Please keep them away from me and you should avoid using them as well.

Breaking up through Facebook

Some dude in England divorced his wife through Facebook and received a lot of backlash for it. If you’re going to break up with anyone, just do it in person or over the phone. Announcing it to all your friends and family through Facebook is just childish and stupid. Why would you want everyone to know your personal business, unless of course you’re looking for some sympathy points, before you start writing life quote….Let me stop

What are some other Facebook etiquettes that people need to follow? Have you ever been guilty of any of the above?
