Thanksgiving is right around the corner and while we’re all preparing to stuff ourselves on the big day, for those of us who might not be able to cook or make food, we have 10 iPhone Apps that can help take care of that and a little bit more. More »
If you haven’t ignored your television commercials lately, you’ve most likely come across Verizon ads that point out Apple’s lack of 3G coverage in parts of the US. Verizon even went as far as releasing an ad making fun of AT&T’s coverage crippling the iPhone (check it out after the break).
Well, AT&T didn’t sit back and take it. AT&T filed a lawsuit against Verizon for the “there’s a map for that” and then started new ads starring Luke Wilson, that are supposed to convince America that AT&T doesn’t have the shoddy coverage that Verizon claims. So, will it stop soon or will it continue till one of them gets fed up? With AT&T coming out with new ads, this may go on for some time. (check out the ads after the break) More »
The past few weeks, I’ve been thinking about whether or not I can give up my iPhone and switch to another carrier and use a different smartphone. The more I think about it, the more I don’t want to give up the iPhone. It’s one of those unique devices that does everything you want it to do, in a simplistic way.
Even with that said, if there is a better device out here, I’d like a chance to try it out. One of the devices I want to use is the HTC Hero. I’ve played with it for a few minutes but not enough to really get a feel for it. I really did like the Android software, which has been growing at a rapid pace.
If you had to switch your current phone, which cellphone or smartphone would you get? Do you think the iPhone is the best phone out there in the market right now?
“What’s Gmail?”
That was the question that someone at the gym asked me last week. Being around so much technology and gadgets, I found the question extremely odd. Who didn’t know about Gmail? I explained what Gmail was to the person, a lady in her 30’s. Afterward, it got me thinking, if something as popular as Gmail is not known to people who are still relatively young, then what other advancement in tech don’t people know about. And we’re not talking about really old people, we’re talking about educated, folks in their twenties and 30’s. So, to make this a little more interesting, I went around and asked a few people at a bar I went with a few friends this past week. I asked 20 people about Gmail, Twitter, Facebook, Digg, iPhone and Android. Here are the results. More »
Adorable robots are a big weakness of ours, and adorable useful robots? We’re instantly smitten. Well, this could be love. As part of the three-year, $3.9 million DustBot research program, this helpful trash-eating robot prototype rolled through the streets of Peccioli, Italy this summer, chomping trash and recyclables. Sort of like a real-life Wall-E, the bot gathers rubbish and sorts it into recyclable, organic (hopefully to be composted), and waste. Then it whisks it off to a waste management facility, finding its way using pre-loaded maps and sensors to avoid obstacles. More »
Union Square has just recieved its first technological guest, their new flagship BestBuy store that is open 24 hours a day. If you’re in the neighborhood and want to buy that new Blu-Ray player you’ve been eyeing, then you can pick it up here. This will be the first Best-Buy in the world that is open 24 hours a day and carries every major tech brand. Apparently, BestBuy stores across the country also carry musical instruments now, about 80 stores nationwide. Yeah, we were surprised too. They also carry a full DJ section with live sound equipment. The browser war is starting again and this time Chrome OS will be involved. Chrome OS was announced earlier this year to be released in 2010 and this made us realize that web browsers are a big part of our computer. They are our outlet to the Internet, and they help us organize our information in an orderly fashion. So, because choosing a good web browser that fits your personality and tastes is very important for a good Web experience, we’ve decided to put together the 3 best web browsers and write a little bit about each of them to give you an idea of what makes up each one. Intel is always thinking ahead of the curve, creating the world’s smallest microchips. Intel’s latest project is a chip that will allow people to change channels and go to websites with their minds, as if we’re not lazy enough. Intel estimates that in 2020, which is 10 years from now, consumers will be able to connect directly to their computers and other systems to control, manipulate, and use the information on it. So, it’s pretty much a early form of telekinesis with the help of a machine. They also estimated that remotes would not be necessary, and phone calls could be made directly by mental commands. More »
For most of my life whenever it came to watching movies, er sorry…I mean “films,” (ever since film school I learned that “movie” is as derogatory a term as calling a little person a midget) I would place them in two categories: Films I absolutely had to see in theatres; and films I’d wait to watch at home. My decision process has always been simple; any films involving robots, dragons, aliens, superheroes, natural disasters, wars, zombies, wizards, James Bonds or any film who’s title begins with the word “Star” or “Bourne,” I’ll watch in theatres. Films depicting regular humans doing regular human stuff, ie dramas, suspense thrillers, comedies, dramadies, and any movies with the word “Wife” or “Notebook” in the title, and I’ll wait until the dvd comes out.
The following directors have all employed the latest and greatest special effect technology to produce some of the most memorable moments on the silver screen. In some cases they’ve gone as far as inventing new technology and filing techniques, and in all cases they’ve inspired filmmakers in their wake More »
Motorola seems to be all over the place these days, releasing one handset after another. Recently, Motorola released the DROID which did a good job of using the Android platform to fight off the iPhone and the new HTC Hero. Now, Motorola is planning another one. While this one doesn’t seem like one of those ‘killer phones’, it does have a good price point and decent features which makes it a great Christmas present. The newest phone, is dubbed the Crush, which seems a little ironic because that’s what Motorola is trying to do its competitors. The Crush, an EV-DO Rev.0 device, comes with a 2.8” touchscreen (240 x 400 pixels), 2 megapixel camera, virtual on-screen QWERTY keypad, Stereo Bluetooth for connectivity and even a 3.5mm handsfree port. Barnes & Nobles competitor to the Amazon Kindle, The Nook, has apparently sold out. The New York Times is reporting that B&N didn’t think they’d get such a hit on their hands and are now saying they don’t have enough for everyone this holiday season.
Like Barnes & Noble, this is a big surprise to me as well. While the price is competitive with the Kindle, I didn’t think the Nook had enough to compete with the Kindle’s popularity and new print and commercial ads. To help those who might get upset at B&N for not having enough Nooks, (sounds like Nukes when you say it out loud), Barnes & Nobles is offering place holder certificates for those still interested in buying the device. The next batch of shipment will begin on January 4th, 2010.
