Sony has a lot to be thankful for this past Thanksgiving. According to new numbers, Sony sold over 440,000 Playstation 3 consoles. That’s a great weekend for Sony and it’s being propelled by the lower cost of the PS3, from over $500 a year ago to $299 now.

Sony told the GamsSutra site this:

In today’s economy, consumers are drawn to items that offer the most value for their money, making the PS3 an ideal choice for those who want a comprehensive gaming and entertainment system all in one package.

The important part of that quote was the entertainment system because that’s what the PS 3 has become. Now with Netflix streaming and its ability to play Blu-ray videos, the PS3 is the ultimate gaming and video machine. I can’t ever picture myself getting an Xbox system, even with its bigger lineup of games and Xbox Live service. It’s a good sign that Sony is continuing to sell more PS3s. I may pick up a Slim sometime down the road, since you know I gave mine away.
