In today’s day and age, if you want something done or exposed, all you have to do is create some controversy (or have something awesome) and put it up on YouTube or some online forum and you’re good to go. 2009 had a lot of them, so let’s take a look at some of 2009’s most viral videos, people, and events.
JK Wedding Entrance (Chris Brown’s Forever Song)
This video hit YouTube and went berserk. As I type this post, the video has been viewed over 33 million times. It was very creative and has spurred many others to come up with similar ideas. Every time I see the video, I get a good laugh out of it. It’s just one of those really fun things that grabbed everyone’s attention, including NBC, which copied the theme for Jim and Pam’s wedding on their hit TV show, The Office.
David After The Dentist
Now who could forget this video. If you don’t remember, this was the video about a young boy, David, who was being videotaped by his dad after a trip to the dentist. It’s hilarious and sad at the same time. You can’t help but crack up when you see this video but it also has its “WTF” moments. This video was viewed over 36 million times, which is just insane.
Ashton Kutcher vs CNN: Who Can Get The Most Twitter Followers?
This happened back in April and helped propel the success of Twitter further. Ashton Kutcher, the king of Twitter (if there’s such a thing), challenged CNN to see who can be the first to get to 1 million followers. In the end, of course Ashton won. Was anyone surprised by that?
Here’s a bit from CNN’s tech section about the challenge: (April 15th, 2009)
As of Wednesday afternoon, Kutcher’s Twitter account had 896,947 followers, putting him in third place in the number of followers. Britney Spears was in second with about 905,640 followers, and CNN’s breaking news account was watched by 937,787 people on the site.
No single Twitter account has attracted 1 million followers, according to TwitterCounter and Twitterholic, two sites tracking the most popular Twitter users.
Are there any other viral videos, or events that took place in 2009 that we should be aware of? Let us know in the comments and we’ll update the post.
