Living in a home devoid of nectar bearing flowers, humming birds sightings are a rarity. They’re not quite something I’d blow $2.1 million on though. Japanese researchers are have currently thrown down that much to develop a humming bird robot that’ll be instrumental in helping to rescue people from wrecks, search for criminals and maybe even serve as a space probe controlled by infrared sensors. Like a real hummingbird, the robot version actually flaps its wings 30x per second.

Pretty cool stuff. Hopefully all the money they’re spending on this is put to good use. Do you think this is a worthy investment?

I am not sure about this. Don’t we already have people (cops) who search for criminals, others (firemen/women) who rescue the distressed? Perhaps the money would be better served improving technology and raising salaries for hardworking cops and firefighters.

True. The amount of money they’re putting towards this is a little…insane.
