DigiTimes is reporting that Apple has already placed large orders for 10″ glass touchscreens from Foxconn’s subsidiary Innolux. A second report from Financial Times suggests that Apple has booked the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco) for a Tuesday January 26th event, which could be for the announcement of the highly anticipated Apple Tablet. Steve Jobs recently took the stage at the Yerba Buena Center for Apple’s iPod line-up refresh press conference.

Like I have said before, I fail to envision an Apple Tablet at the widely believed $700 price range, unless the device is nothing more than a glorified iPhone. If the specs are good at $700, then Apple is probably bracing itself to lose quite a bit of money on the first million or so units sold. Other rumors indicate that Apple has ordered 7″ touchscreens as well, so the strong possibility is that there will be a low-end and a more expensive version of the Tablet.

I didn’t think that Apple could deliver a real tablet computer for under a grand, so the iPad is indeed a glorified iTouch.

Ugh… Apple. I’m foreseeing a flop right now. I’m surely not willing to drop $700+ on that.
