Sony unveils new F and Y Series notebooks

Okay, so if you have not figured it out yet, I am a complete Sony junkie. Something about the sleek and sexy “Sony Style” is just irresistible to me. It’s no surprise, then, that I’ve been keeping an eye on the Sony products being showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. Two items that caught my eye were two of the brand new lines of notebooks that were being added to the Sony VAIO line. These are the F and the Y series.

The Y series is what I’m calling Sony’s “crowd pleaser.” The Y series is definitely for the average consumer. It allows for media playback and organization, video chat, and all the other stuff that your average Joe wants to do on the computer and internet. The specs are as follows:

- Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor SU7300 (3M Cache, 1.30 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
- 4GB RAM
- 13.3″ screen
- 3.9 lbs
- 8 hours max battery life
- 500GB hard drive

The one I am more excited about, however, is the F series. I call this one the “power notebook.” Here are the specs on this baby:

- Intel® Core™ i7-820QM Processor (1.73GHz) available with up to 3.06GHz
- 8GB RAM
- 16.4″ screen
- 6.9 lbs
- 3 hours max battery life
- 640GB hard drive

In terms of physical attributes, this notebook has the exact same specifications as my current VAIO FW. In terms of power, though, this new addition is definitely, as Sony puts it, “born to perform.” The VAIO F is sporting the new 2010 Core i7 processor by Intel. This new processor features Intel Turbo Boost, which allows the processor to adapt depending on what you’re doing on the computer. It also has Hyper Treading Technology, which basically means that you can multi-task with more ease than ever before. Definitely a notebook for any gamers or tech junkies out there, and certainly on my “to buy” list this year; let’s just hope I can come up with the money…
