Remember back in the good ‘ole days when you had to buy an entire CD just to hear the one song that you heard on the radio? Well, it’s back to the future where MP3s to your favorite songs are just a click away. But could these innocent downloads be hurting your favorite artists? CNN tells the story.
In the last four years, digital music sales have risen a whopping 940%. This increase, however, is apparently not enough to make up for the resulting loss of physical album sales, which seem to be dropping every year. The problem seems to be that many people are not paying for their music and are instead resorting to illegal file sharing to obtain their music. Companies say that competing with media piracy is the biggest problem that they have.
So support your favorite artists. Go to your local CD store and buy a CD.

Most of these musicians who complain need to get with the times. Many new artists realize the power of online distribution. I tend to believe that the RIAA exaggerates how horrible piracy is, and that most people who download MP3s instead of buying CDs are probably unlikely to buy much of what they download anyway.
The old way of selling digital music via CDs is dying, and the RIAA needs to adapt because piracy sure isn’t going to.

I guess it’s hard for some people to part with CDs. It’s something tangible that shows your appreciation for someone’s music. MP3s are kind of abstract. I dunno. I like my CDs. Hahaha.
