After much hype in the past couple weeks over Apple’s “latest creation,” Apple has finally unveiled it’s latest product: the iPad. The unveiling today has confirmed the suspicions of many that Apple would be releasing their own “Tablet PC.” So as to not take away from the in-depth post that is to come, I will just say that Apple claims that the iPad is a new category of portable electronics; it is the transition between smart phones and laptops. There is a huge controversy right now between Apple supporters and Apple haters as to whether or not this device is truly a new innovation or whether it is just another over-hyped Apple product. This is financially a more appropriate product that I had anticipated. Most of us were expecting a $700-999 tablet with a CPU that could compete with new netbooks using the AMD Neo. Instead, Apple has chosen to compete with the pricier Kindle models. I think that the iPad will be fairly successful, but its usefulness is very limited. I have absolutely no need for something like this, and I bet that most geekier computer users don’t either.
