Relations between Google and China have recently been driven to the breaking point, with the search-engine giant threatening to close down its doors in China. In the midst of all this, it looks like a pseudo-Google (谷歌)site has arisen called Goojje (谷姐).
Although Google refuses to comment on the topic, it is clear that Goojje is not affiliated with them, despite the similarities in design and layout. Goojje also contains censored search results, as regulated by the Chinese government.
I think Chinese people will see the humor in the names, but for those of you that don’t, here’s the low down: The second character in Google’s Chinese name means “brother,” while the second character in Goojje’s name means “sister” (hahahaha. very funny, China).
