Remember when you were a kid, and you dreamed that a day with 3D television and video games would come? Well, the future is now, because this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is filled with 3D televisions from such big companies as Sony, Samsung, LG, and Panasonic. Of course, no longer are the days of the awkward red and blue glasses; this “new” type of 3D utilizes a new type of technology. More »

From Ningin:

Congratulations to Ningin again for the upset win over Wirebot in the inaugural MLG tournament. So far I like what I’m seeing with Mixr League Gaming. There has been many a tearful eye, much blood was spilled, and we even had a couple of babies exchanged hands. Yes, all this makes for a bright MLG future and something that we’re going to greatly expand. Pretty soon, we’re going to have users form their own teams and play for pins. prizes, and other glories in the MLG Ladders. Still lots of testing that needs to be done, but we’re getting there! “Green” phones seem to be the new trend nowadays. Motorola just recently released their W233 renew device, which boasted itself as the first certified carbon free cell phone on the market. One of my general complaints about this phone was the design of it. Well, it seems the cell phone gods have heard my cries, because Sony Ericsson just released its own set of “green” phones, and, I must say, they look sexy. More »

From Ningin: The holidays have come and gone and now it is the moment you’ve all been waiting for. If you can recall in November, we launched a Mixr Holiday Rewards giveaway of an Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and game controllers in promotion of our Facebook Connect feature. Facebook connect enables you to login to Mixr sites via Facebook. And boy did you people Facebook-it-up! The giveaway has recently ended and now we’d like to announce the lucky winners! More »

Look at a gadget with a small screen and dial pad and you know it’s a mobile phone. Gadget with a viewfinder and lens? It’d be as clear as day that it’s a camera, right? A box where you stick cold food in only to receive it warm a minute later? No brainer there — it’s a microwave. But how about those questionable looking gadgets? The ones that make you scratch your head and say, “huh?” For you my friends, I have a particular gadget that is making me do just that. Based on two images, can you guess what it is and what it does? I commend One Laptop Per Child for its vision, but there are quite a few design and concepts about its program and laptop that I would change. Here is my idea: an advanced e-reader/simplified notebook device at $299 shared by two children. More »

It is pretty common knowledge that brand name computers all use parts (motherboards by Asus, hard drives by Toshiba, RAM by HNIX, etc.) not made by the company whose name is inscribed on the casing, but few people realize that all major laptops originate out of several major factories. Taiwanese companies Quanta and Compal make up more than half of all notebooks sold worldwide. Quanta Computer Inc. is the second largest manufacturer and has a client list that includes Apple, Acer, HP, Lenovo, Dell, and more. Compal Electronics Corp. surged ahead of its rival this year, reporting sales records, and also supplies wares to many of Quanta’s patrons. More »

Some of the prognosticators got it wrong; Ballmer did not showcase Microsoft’s tablet. Instead, he sung praises about Windows 7, which will be powering HP’s upcoming tablet. Focusing on software rather than hardware, Ballmer demonstrated the HP tablet, which will be among the Windows based candidates ready to take on Apple’s anticipated Tablet. The other big news involves Project Natal, which is scheduled to be in stores this Christmas. More »

From Ningin: Ningin’s victorious defeat over Wirebot in MLG Tournament I, has done much to rile the emotions of many Mixr sites within the Mixr Kingdom. So much so, that football site BlitzNation.com, Japanese entertainment site Rekuru.com and gadgets site ZiggyTek.com have joined forces to become BlitzKuTek, a team of allied bloggers from each respective site. After all, how could it be that a team of non-gamers (Ningin) beat a team of gamers (Wirebot) in a flash game tournament? More »

Too often, I read complaints from MacBook and MacBook Pro owners about how their laptops are overheating and sometimes even crashing. Just listening to how quietly most MacBooks run is enough to confirm the suspicion that Apple has tuned its laptops to run hotter than they should. Fans take longer to spin up than most Windows PC laptops, and the default 2,000rpm setting on all new MacBook/MacBook Pro machines is awfully low. To prevent your Mac from overheating during heavy or moderate use, I recommend installing an indispensable application: smcFanControl, which allows users to adjust fan speeds manually. More »

I’m not going to lie; I would totally be willing to drop $160 on the Yantouch Jellyfish LED Lamp. Unfortunately, the lamp, claiming to be able to display 16 million colors, is currently only available in Japan. More »

You know what they say about people with huge phones. They probably have big ears. Especially big if you’re talking the world’s largest Nexus One phone that’s hanging out in the Google HQ lobby. Worth $600,000 USD, the world’s largest Nexus One phone has the same specs as the original CAD model, just 12 times bigger, with a 1920×1080 46-inch LED-backlit display. Personally, I think I’d make more use out of a standard human-sized Nexus One phone. More »

On Tuesday, search engine behemoth Google officially demonstrated its Nexus One smartphone, which is being hyped as the iPhone killer. Although some of the released details, including the actual look of the unit itself, has been known for sometime, here is a round up of Google’s announcement: More »
