OLPC is a non-profit organization whose mission is to supply hundreds of millions of ultra affordable laptops to impoverished children all over the world. While its XO laptop has not made a tremendous impact (many claim that the XO is vaporware), the group has already outlined a roadmap for its upcoming three releases, including two tablets. OLPC claims that “The XO has been distributed to more than 1.4 million children in 35 countries and in 25 languages.” More »

From Ningin: After an emotionally grueling, finger-breaking weekend, the first official MLG Tournament has come to a close with victory earned by one team, and one team alone. Initially believed by many to have no fighting chance at winning this tournament due to lack of gaming experience, this team rose up like a phoenix from the ashes, to claim victory over Sir Spencealot and the bloggers of Wirebotonia. This team is Ningin. Below is the official closing score card: More »

Originally scheduled for a November 2009 launch, nVidia has pushed back the release of its “Fermi” Graphics Processing Unit until March. Hard at work, the company has supposedly been ironing out kinks before it is ready to unleash Fermi. Already trailing ATi in the ultra high performance sector, nVidia desperately needs this GPU to be everything that it is promising. With already stiff competition in the integrated graphics department from Intel (whose 4500M dominates all Intel based budget and consumer laptops and some desktops) and AMD’s Fushion (ATi), nVidia must strike back against arch rival ATi in the mid to upper tier markets. It’s hard, depressing times being my sofa. The only action it gets is me sitting on it and not much else. By no means is this the fault of my stagnant love life — I just don’t own a Glowing Belly Love sofa. As a Indian ocean coral-inspired sofa with tentacles that caress your body and release a fragrance, the Glowing Belly Love sofa may very well be the cure to the lack of action I get these days. Did I mention it also glows? Bow-chicka-wow-wow. More »

From Swandiary: In a somewhat random move, Twilight’s Peter Facinelli (Carlisle Cullen) recently unveiled to the world Vampire Transformer, a new iPhone app. The Vampire Transformer app allows swans of the iPhone using sort to take any picture and blend it with a vampire of your choice. An iPhone vampire makeover of your photos if you will. I only say this is a somewhat random move on his part because although it’s always nice to cash in on the vampire franchise you’re involved in, I feel Peter is truly being sincere when he says it’s “for the fans.” More »

Half vespa, half flying vehicle from The Jetsons, is the Jet Scooter, a flying vespa. Well, it’s more of a design from deviantart user peanuts 23, than it is an actual flying vespa. You can’t argue over how cool this thing looks. Hopefully if someone where to create a functioning Jet Scooter, it could have somewhere nice to stash groceries or misbehaving children. Well, okay, not so much misbehaving children. More »

From Ningin: MLG sports fans, welcome to the recap of Day 3 of the first official MLG Tournament. Tensions arose with yesterday’s tie. Today on the other hand, has been quite interesting. Not because Wirebot talks a lot of smack but because Ningin is currently taking the lead. As of now, the score is 4 to 2. More »

In a sport where top teams like McLaren, Ferrari, and Toyota each spend in excess of $400 million per year, $44,990 USD would not buy much; however, you can own an F1 car for precisely that amount from F1 Show Car. Unfortunately, their car is just a simulator and not the real thing. Still, for under fifty-grand, you get a full-size F1 chasis clad inside of a custom painted composite fiberglass body, complete with a full cockpit and racing tyres that turn. More »

A sobering number for consumer electronics companies is 7.8, which is how many percentage points revenue dropped in 2009 from the previous year: from $179 billion to $165 billion. However, tech analysts are hopeful for some key products to emerge and bring sales back up. More »

There is no doubt that 2009 has been a huge year for the mobile internet craze. Last year, mobile internet usage jumped an astounding 75% in the third quarter alone. Car companies are now trying to cash in on this new craze by developing technology for automobiles that makes them wireless hot spots. While Japan has already been using such technology as early as 1997 (no surprises there…), the Western world is still toying with different methods to try to make this new concept a success. Companies such as Mercedes and General Motors are exploring the development of their own separate hardware that will have to be purchased for internet use in the car. Ford, on the other hand, is exploring connectivity with preexisting USB modems that users may already have purchased for other services. More »
