A couple years back I remember a friend of mine raving about her awesome “ringback.” For those of you that don’t know, a ringback is a song that plays in lieu of the standard dial tone when you call someone. I remember thinking, “Yeah…that’ll last long.” I get to eat my words now. It seems that ringbacks are making a comeback. More »

From Htcyou: In response to a report claiming a 200% Android usage increase, HTCYou user David Chou was kind enough to contribute this blog post as a response:

Almost every large phone OEM has many Android platforms in the works, Motorola recently canned all their WinMobile and other designs and are moving everything over to Android. Similarly, Korean OEMs are heavily targeting Android and there will be plethora of Android phones soon in the market. Apple’s inherent advantage are the integration of their media content, applications, iTunes, etc. as well as having relatively “optimized” implementation of hardware and software integration - they control everything so that general performance will generally be superior than competing platforms. For the past week or so, you’ve probably been hearing about all the brave men and women that are volunteering their time and efforts in Haiti to sort through rubble, provide healthcare, and just to try to keep things together. Well, they aren’t the only ones helping out. Back here in the States, developers, programmers, and other volunteers are helping to make a huge difference. More »

From Htcyou: Let me get this straight, just in case there is any confusion: Android 1.6 came out on September 15th, 2.0 on October 26th, so why is my Android powered smartphone still stuck on version 1.5 or 1.6? Google’s open source Android project arrived with the promise that it would be free and completely open to everyone. Unfortunately, one of the massive problems that Android has created is a lack of universal standards and regulations. We are in smartphone anarchy. More »

Technological giant Apple has officially announced that it will have a press conference for their latest product in San Francisco, California on January 27th. A colorful and cryptic invitation was sent out on Monday encouraging people to “Come see our latest creation…” No word has been given about what exactly Apple will be unveiling, but rumors have it that it will indeed be the much anticipated Apple tablet PC. The press conference will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and will begin at 10AM PT.

Contrary to the TV advertisements, your Mac was just a plain Mac and not really a PC after all, at least not a Windows 7 PC, until Tuesday when Apple officially made Bootcamp 3.1 available for download. Nearly all Intel Macs are now capable of running 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows 7. The former is a 381Mb package, while the latter is 275Mb. I choose 64-bit. More »

It seems like a lot of universities and colleges across the world are sort of stuck in a rut with tradition. With the recent rise of new technology such as e-readers, colleges and textbook publishers should begin to look into these new options. More »

From Htcyou: What happens when a really well made and superior product is released, and no one buys it? Based on the number of unboxing videos for the Nexus One, I assume that every unit sold has had its unboxing recorded and then uploaded to YouTube. From Patrick Boivin comes the most wicked and creative unboxing of any smartphone. My only question is, what took him so long? More »
