Set to start shipping sometime later this quarter, the Sony Ericsson Vivaz is a phone that stands out from all the Android buzz that has been going on lately. With all the focus on smartphones lately, it looks like Sony is still appealing to users that just want to use their phones for other things.

The main attraction of the Vivaz is the ability for the phone to capture video in 720p HD resolution. The 8.1 megapixel camera has 4x zoom with all the bells and whistles, including continuous auto focus and smile detection. Since the phone is meant for taking video, the phone comes with a designated video capture button. After you capture a video or picture, you can upload it directly to YouTube or Picasa via wifi.

Here are the specs on this baby:

- 4.2 x 2.0 x 0.5 inches
- 3.4 oz
- 360 x 640 pixel
- 16,777,216 colour 16:9 nHD touchscreen (TFT)
- Cosmic Black, Moon Silver, Galaxy Blue, Venus Ruby
- 75MB internal memory, up to 16GB expandable card memory
- GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 (up to 13 hours talk time)
- UMTS/HSPA 900/2100 (up to 5 hours and 20 minutes talk time / 2 hours and 30 minutes video call)
- Up to 440 hours standby time

I am very tempted by this phone, but I guess that deal breaker here is that I’ve become too attached to smartphones. This phone, nevertheless, will find a lucky owner, though. I imagine that this will be the phone of choice for budding artists or something.
