Today Sony launched their new BDP-S470 stand-alone Blu-Ray player. Sony says that a firmware update in the summer will allow this $200 device to play 3D Blu-Ray movies.
“Consumer excitement for 3D is unbelievably high and Sony is poised to deliver the best possible in-home experience,” said Chris Fawcett, vice president of Sony’s Home Division. “Involved in every facet of the 3D chain from professional equipment to content production and hardware, Sony is the one company that can lean on its broad expertise to deliver 3D to the home that truly captures consumer imagination.”
In addition to 3D, these devices will also be able to play music, videos, and movies from a plethora of online providers when connected to a broadband connection.

Not a bad price. I was expecting a lot more. Sony is actually thinking during the hard economical times.

Agreed with Danny re: price. That new e-reader is a rip-off, so at least Sony has some common sense on its products.
