Google is at it again. On Wednesday, the search-engine giant announced that it would be testing out a new type of broadband that Google claims will be one hundred times faster than traditional broadband. This new fiber optic network will be able to provide download speeds up to one gigabit per second!

Once it is made available to the public, Google says it will be providing the service at “a competitive price.

“Our long-term vision is to see a better, faster Internet,” said Minnie Ingersoll, product manager of Google’s high-speed broadband initiative. “When everyone had dial up, we couldn’t imagine what broadband speeds would be like. By increasing speeds by 100 times faster than what’s offered today, we can create opportunities for services that we won’t even be able to envision now.”

With Google’s new broadband network in the works, it looks like the standard for “fast internet” will be changing very soon. I, for one, am thrilled.
