Whoever downloads Apple iTune’s 10,000,000,000th song will win a $10,000 iTunes store gift card. Apple expects the milestone to be surpassed during February.

In the past, Apple has rewarded similar lucky customers. In February 2006, the 1 billionth iTunes song buyer was vouchsafed the same $10,000 iTunes gift card, an iMac, ten iPods, and even a personal call from Steve Jobs. In April, a teenager who made the billionth download from the App Store received nearly the same bounty.

I am not into downloading lossy music if I have to pay for it, but perhaps I might change my mind if I had a decent chance at winning the 10 billionth jackpot. Apparently, the contest is open to non-customers too, but I am too lazy to read the fine print to discover how the giveaway fully works. Besides, I would gladly trade that gift card for $10 –or sell it for whatever I could get.
