Lower Merion School District is located in the suburbs of Philadelphia. One unique feature of this school is that they distribute laptops to their students. The laptops are used to promote technology-integrated lessons, spy on students, and to nourish the learning of the users. Wait… What was the second thing? SPY ON STUDENTS!?

Apparently, the laptops come equipped with webcams that can be remotely activated by the school district. Blake J. Robbins, a high school student, is suing the district after having been disciplined at school for “improper behavior” that was captured by the webcam.

This, in my opinion, is going way too far. What right does a school have to be spying on their students in the privacy of their own homes? I mean, people undress while their laptops are open! Okay, sure, monitoring students while they are actually in the school building, but taking this surveillance to students’ homes is just down right wrong.
