Windows 7 is very smart at RAM management. I rarely exceed 66% of the 4Gb in my machine, but for others who have only a few gigs of memory, or who require more memory than I do, Memory Washer is an incredibly useful application for freeing up memory and optimizing your system’s usage of CPU and RAM resources.
Giant Matrix’s program is only $14.95 and could save you lots of money on RAM upgrades. Whenever your computer has not been rebooted for awhile, memory resources tend to get drained away, as various applications take from the allotted pool available. I have never run into low memory problems on my Windows 7 tower, but on my MacBook Pro, Snow Leopard is a hog, and I find myself routinely having to shut down and reopen applications and clearing Safari/FireFox caches to free up my 4Gb if I have had my machine up for more than a week (I rarely ever reboot my computers). If you have around 2Gb of RAM and are running Vista, you might particularly enjoy this application. Try it out today:
- Increase your computer’s memory virtually by almost 95%!
- Protect your computer from unnecessary slowdowns, Windows crashes, and inefficiency!
- Give your system a performance boost with just a few mouse clicks!
- Completely control your Windows startup list decide what you want in it, and get rid of what you don’t!
- Eliminate malicious and suspicious processes, consuming your system resources with just a single mouse click!
- Get your computer’s memory automatically washed based on pre-configured schedule and triggers!

Yes, this one does. I don’t need it for Windows since 7 is so efficient with RAM. However, I am searching for a good equivalent Mac app.
