Nintendo has declared that its new DSi XL, which will debut on March 28th for $190, is also an e-reader. Apple’s iPad and iPod Touch/iPhone are breaking into the Japanese gaming corporation’s territory; the DSi XL is return fire that will a title called “100 Classic Books,” which includes works from Shakespeare and Twain.
So far, the DS has shipped over 125.1 million unit, making it by far the most successful portable gaming system in production, but Apple’s entrance into mobile games has Nintendo worried slightly. The DSi XL, with its large dual 4.2″ screens, is an answer to the competition. Not surprisingly, the DSi XL is clobbering the PSPgo in Japanese sales.

lol @ reading Shakespeare on that thing. And I don’t really like reading books electronically personally, but if I did I definitely don’t think I would on that. Nintendo’s trying at least, so A for effort I guess.
I don’t think Nintendo has anything to worry about either when it comes to the DS because it is an institution.
It’s Nintendo’s president who recently stated that Apple was a threat.
