HP has actually been manufacturing full laptop tablets for years. Today, the world’s top PC seller announced two new models –the 2540p and 2740p, both powered by 12.1″ LED multi-touch (1280 x 800) displays, Windows 7 and Intel Core i5 or i7 processors, starting at $1099 - $1599 in April (USA).

Toshiba and Lenovo are HP’s stiffest competition in the fully featured laptop tablet segment. HP’s offerings start at noticeably lower prices than both of its rivals, and if I may say so, I prefer the 2540p/2740p design over the M780, though the X201 would be my pick if money were a non-issue. Common to both the 2540p and 2740p are DDR3 1066/1333MHz RAM, Intel Integrated GPU, Wireless A/B/G/N, Bluetooth 2.1, and the usual USB and other ports.

- 2540p $1099
- 3.3 lbs.
- Optional 2-megapixel Webcam and Fingerprint Sensor
- 4 to 10.5 Hrs. Battery Life (3, 6, and 9 Cells)

- 2740p $1599
- 3.8 lbs.
- 5 Hrs. Battery Life, up to 11 Hours with Optional HP 2700 Ultra-Slim Battery

Plastic is a great weight-saver.

Wow. Those actually look pretty chunky for them to only be less than four pounds!
