Appleinsider is reporting that a new Apple Mac Mini with HDMI output has been spotted. Currently, the Mac Mini uses mini-DisplayPort and mini-DVI as digital output. Many Apple owners have been clamoring for HDMI Macs for years. Appleinsider also claims that the new Mini might use the NVIDIA MCP89 chipset, which is the replacement for the NVIDIA 9400m.

If Apple is moving to Intel’s new Core i3, i5, and i7 processors, then it cannot use NVIDIA’s MCP89 due to licensing disputes with Intel. If left up to me, I would rather have the MCP79 (GeForce 9400m) and Nehalem Core i processors over the MCP89 and older Core 2 Duo Penryn chips, which are in current Mac Minis and MacBooks/Pros.

Appleinsider is usually pretty dependable, so let us see if Steve Jobs finally approves HDMI. The advantage of HDMI, for those who do not know, is that the cable carries both sound and video to a monitor/display, whereas DVI is video only. DisplayPort can be both sound and video, but Apple’s implementation of the technology on its Mac Mini and MacBook/Pros omits the former.
