I’ve always been wary about transparent cell phone covers. Naturally, I was a little scared to put the BodyGuardz cover on my phone, too. Read on to find out what I thought about the covers…
Application:
I’m going to admit this right now: it took me a good fifteen minutes or so to put on all the parts of the cover. Below is a picture of all the pieces that this particular model had. Also included is a map that tells you where each piece goes.
Some of the pieces were really small and hard to grasp. Luckily, the cover came with an application solution that you can put on your hands to prevent smudging and sticking. I am somewhat of a perfectionist, and I ended up using tweezers so that the pieces went on just right. This was the hardest part of the entire process. I can see where this would turn some people off to the covers, but believe me, it’s worth the time.
Scratch Test:
I didn’t actually do any of the scratch tests on my actual phone. BodyGuardz sends you two sets of the covers, and I used the second set of covers for the scratch/smudge tests. BodyGuardz is made from the material that is on your cars to prevent abrasion and scratching, which was apparent during the scratch tests. My nails did no damage to the covers. Keys did not show any significant markings either. It was only when I took scissors to the cover and applied a significant amount of force that the cover showed signs of minor scratches.
Smudge Test:
The smudge test worked equally as well. I rubbed my finger against the cover, leaving some body oil on it. A quick wipe with a cloth took care of that. I came back with some fries and chicken fingers. Even with all that grease, I was still able to get rid of it with a damp cloth.
Removal:
Many Xperia users have complained about products such as the invisibleSHIELD by ZAGG being too adhesive and damaging the exterior. I was glad to find out that the BodyGuardz covers claim that they are easy to remove without leaving behind any residue. About three hours after having had the cover on, I was able to easily pull it off. There are no visible signs of adhesive material on my device, nor is there evidence of any damage. Everything is exactly as it was before I started.
The Bottom Line:
Although I prefer to not use any covers, I would definitely recommend BodyGuardz to anyone that wants to thoroughly protect their phone (but might change their mind later on). Depending on your phone model, it might take a little time and patience to apply the cover, but I guarantee that the endeavor is worth it. Great protection and easy to remove; definitely a thumbs up!
