Erez Lieberman-Aiden, an MIT and Harvard graduate student, was recently awarded $30,000 on Wednesday by the Lemelson-MIT Collegiate Student Prize committee for his innovative work.

Aside from a collaboration project that mapped the human genome in 3D, Lieberman-Aiden developed what he calls the “iShoe.” After his grandmother died from falling down, Lieberman-Aiden was driven to create a product that would prevent further accidents like this from happening in other elderly folk. The battery powered device goes where the sole belongs and is able to adjust itself in the event that someone would begin losing their balance.

Although still in the developmental phases, this product may soon be coming to a store or podiatrist office near you!
