University of Tokyo’s JSK Robotics Laboratory is working on an advanced android that has a musculoskeletal (muscles and spinal column) body that is comprised of tendons and synthetic bones. The result is a robot that eerily moves like a human –think Aliens.

Studies like Kojiro could eventually lead to the breakthroughs that presently exist only in science fiction films such as I, Robot and Terminator. The hope, though, is that Kojiro and his descendants will not rise up to overthrow humanity, but will instead be of practical use. NASA plans to send an android to the moon within a few years. It could happen.
