Samsung’s “Super” AMOLED screens promise to be brighter than normal AMOLED and, more importantly, have touch sensors built into the panel instead of added on as an additional layer like most LCDs and all AMOLED screens.

Super AMOLED is also thinner than AMOLED, but the biggest draw here is clearly the integrated capacitive touch inside the panel. LCDs already have a similar technology, but advancements in AMOLED are certainly welcome because one day, it should displace LCD altogether. Refinement of Super AMOLED may allow manufacturers (finally) to compete with Apple for touchscreen responsiveness. Before AMOLED is ready to take over, the technology’s low brightness and color inconsistency have to be addressed though.
