Audiophiles who spend lavish amounts of money on their equipment are generally deemed “nuts,” but at least we are chasing after sonic performance and aural nirvana. Most audiophile gear look downright industrial and sometimes unattractive. On the other hand, these garish £3,500 diamond and solid gold earbuds make audiophiles cringe because we know that they will sound awful. I admit that I have spent over $2,000 on a single pair of headphones before, but they were mesmerizing performers, unlike these.

I am going to assume that the drivers inside these cans are not top-of-the-line stuff from Ultimate Ears since only a passing remark is ever made about the actual sound quality. Besides, these are crafted by Belgian jeweler Casa Gi and are standard earbuds, not in-ear-monitors.

So who was stupidly rich enough to buy this monstrosity? I recommend that he/she melts the gold and have it made into real jewelry, then toss away the $0.05 iPod drivers inside. Spend the rest on a pair of Ultimate Ears EU-10 Pro earbuds.

lol, agreed. 99.9% of the money is spent on the jewelry portion, not the sound. Would be good to put a $2000 true headphone into jewelry like this.
