ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) had been approved for .xxx domains back in 2005, but after protests mostly from the States, the plan was scrapped. However, on March 12th, ICANN members will convene in Nairobi to retry negotiations, which, if successful could mean .xxx domains will be on sale by the end of this year.

Because this bill is voluntary, adult websites can still choose not to participate even if .xxx domains are instituted.

In matters of free speech, I tend to be conservative but would definitely be for this proposal, yet I would take it one step further and force explicitly pornographic websites to use .xxx domains. Filtering adult content from children could be much easier if this bill goes through.
