Put aside the $2900 package price for a moment and just consider the technology itself: only a handful of movies and shows are in 3D, and among them, about two or three are actually good, and none of them, except Monsters versus Aliens, is even for sale.
For $2900, you get the following:
Panasonic VT20 Plasma 3D HDTV:

Panasonic 3D Active Shutter Lens Glasses:

Panasonic BDT300 3D Blu-ray Disc Player:

Additionally, buyers receive one year of DirectTV 3D, which features the 3D Cinema channel, a PPV station, and another channel that broadcasts a bit of almost everything, but these services will not be viewable until June, so why buy something that is premature when you can wait until summer or fall and pay less for more?
I understand why manufacturers are bringing this to stores immediately, but why would buyers purchase technology that does not even work right now? If you gotta have it, you gotta have it.
