Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 presentation today unveiled nothing that has not been widely rumored for months: there will be no multitasking; Microsoft’s Marketplace store is the only way to obtain WM7 apps; HTC HD2 will not be upgraded to WM7. In a nutshell, Microsoft is following the strictly isolationist iPhone instead of open source Android (surprise!). In more cheerful news, Samsung, Asus, and LG all demoed WM7 devices.

The actual phones look pretty good but a bit too shiny. One of Microsoft’s rationales for “going iPhone” by not allowing more than one third-party application to be run simultaneously is battery life optimization. Ironically, the LG’s battery was dead, so it could not be turned on (rolls eyes). As revealed before, WM7 has the following minimum hardware requirements:

- 800 x 480 or 480 x 320 Resolutions
- ARMv7 Cortex/Scorpion or faster
- Capacitive touch with 4+ contact points
- aGPS, Accelerometer, Light, Compass, and Proximity Sensors
- 5+ Megapixel Camera with Flash and dedicated hardware button access
- 8Gb Flash Memory, 256Mb RAM or greater
- Direct X9
