In the very European city of Montreal Canada, at the Quartier des spectacles (entertainment district in downtown) intersection of Sainte-Catherine and Saint-Denis Streets, prototype projectors suspended above towers are synchronized with traffic lights to project messages onto the pavement, signifying safe passages across the street and locations of happening spots nearby.

The immortal lyrics of Simon and Garfunkel prophesied of this spectacle. Times Square has its mammoth displays and Vegas likewise, but Montreal’s light-show is the canvas, literally. This experimental projection is both artistic and informative. Do people really pay attention to the signs though? Also, could the government institute a “word of the day” announcement (bilingually) so as to enrich the citizens’ vocabularies? A quote of the day and a stock tip would be helpful too.
