The WePad was not the only tablet announcement yesterday. Archos outlined its Android generation 8 Internet Tablets consisting of models that range from 3″ to 10″ and prices starting at $100 to $350. ARM Cortex 800MHz and 1GHz processors with OpenGL 3D acceleration are going to power these handhelds.
As the picture from Archos Lounge suggests, these pre-production tablets may look exactly like each other, except for the different screen sizes among the various models. A 10″ 1GHz Android tablet with multi-touch for $350 would give people contemplating the iPad second thoughts. Release is likely late Q3 or Q4.
Archos showed the 7″ Android Home Tablet, an even cheaper line than the Internet Tablet, last month. I assume that the newly announced Internet Tablets will bear some resemblance to the Home Tablet but with faster 800MHz-1GHz chips, Android 2.1 (hopefully) and higher resolution screens.
