Mike Tyson was the baddest man on the earth, until he became one of the most shameful men in the world. The HTC Droid Incredible’s reign as the sickest smartphone in America will be short-lived since the Sprint Evo 4G is under two months from hitting the store shelves, but for now, Verizon has the king of phones.
W H A T ‘ S - H O T :
+ The Droid Incredible’s true multi-touch Amtel sensors are markedly more precise for gestures and general taps than touchscreens like the Nexus One’s and the Motorola Droid’s. 800×480 AMOLED with extraordinary contrast ratio is lovely too.
+ HTC’s implementation of Sense UI atop Android 2.1 Eclair might be the best software among all Android smartphones. The interface is pretty, fast, and effective.
+ Ensuring that the Droid Incredible trots along at high speed is the 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and multi-tasking is buttery slick with 512 megs of RAM.
+ Verizon’s network is one of the finest. Voice quality is above average, although the Incredible does not have the Nexus One’s voice cancellation system.
+ The 8 megapixel camera with double LED-flash is arguably the best in any smartphone.
W H A T ‘ S - N O T :
- Due to the rather small 1300mAh rechargeable battery and the powerful CPU, the Droid Incredible’s battery life is mediocre.
- Apparently, HTC is using the same AMOLED panel in the Nexus One, which has horribly inaccurate color and is not bright enough to brave sunlight.
- While still photographs look stunning for a phone camera, its being limited to 480p video capture is disappointing.
- Being CDMA, the Incredible cannot be unlocked for other carriers and is not headed for another network anytime soon.
- Although the Incredible’s build quality is not awful, HTC’s solid aluminum Legend indicates what the company is capable of if it wanted to encase its products in premium materials.
- Incredibly, HTC/Verizon has not thrown in even the smallest of microSD cards. Come on. Give us a 1-2Gb stick minimum.
