From Htcyou: Android fragmentation was inevitable. This is the nature of open source projects that have lax guidelines and include manufacturers from so many different nations. Unlike stern Windows Phone 7, Android’s hardware specifications are much wider, and because of this, smartphones bearing Google’s logo have widely varying features and technical abilities; ergo, app fragmentation was always going to happen. Flash 10.1 will not run on any North American machine not named the Droid or Nexus One (though the Incredible and Evo 4G will join that prestigious class). Android App Market splits were also unavoidable due to the number of nations involved. Vodafone has announced that it is opening its own App Store in select European countries. More »

Matt Parker and Trey Stone just owned FaceBook (well, sort of). This week’s episode of South Park satirizes the world’s most prominent social networking website, making it appear to be an idiotic diversion that detracts from socialization, not add to it. More »

From Htcyou: No other smartphone manufacturer has sown its seeds as broadly as HTC. Motorola is banking solely on Android. Samsung, Sony (though with plenty of Symbian history), and LG are fairly new entrants to the smartphone OS market. Apple, Palm, RIM, and Nokia (though not for long, when Symbian becomes fully open source) are closed systems with their own proprietary software. All this time, HTC has been backing Windows Mobile and Google Android like no one else. With Palm’s devastating fiscal revelations serving as the backdrop, new speculation has surfaced that HTC might be interested in buying Palm and thereby gaining a third smartphone OS to its stable. GeoHot is making it “ra1n” on the iPad with a full jailbreak. To prove it, there is a video of his iPad running n64iphone, which is a homebrew Nintendo 64 emulator. See how beautifully the iPad crunches Zelda 64 and Mario 64! More »

Alright, iPhone OS 4 is not retail software, so this is technically not true piracy, but its beta version is available for free only to registered developers. In a case of real piracy, an early build of Windows 7 SP1 was shown a few days ago, and it has been disseminated to thousands via P2P networks (Torrents). More »

From Htcyou: Furthering confirming the Radio Shack snapshot indicating that HTC’s myTouch Slide is inbound at any moment, here is an FCC file that proves T-Mobile is getting the G1 successor. Compare the FCC’s picture of the Slide’s back with the one that Droid Developer posted in January… More »

From Wirebot:

If you remember the blog post on the gaming glove I recently wrote about, or the Xbox360 and PS3 mice controllers, you know I am pretty interested in cool accessories and gadgets. To see the advancement in how not only the game looks and plays, but also how the gamer actually looks and feels while he plays is intensely interesting. The Madcatz R.A.T 9 mouse looks like it gets a killstreak, avoid carpal tunnel, and punch you in the face before the half way mark of a death match. Yeah, when I say intense, I mean it. More »

Alienware is not traditionally about value for the dollar, but the Aurora tower PC is trying to alter this public perception in a downed economy. Starting at only $990, the somewhat understated looking, sci-fi themed tower is a respectable machine; however, a fast i7-860 and ATi Radeon 5870 configuration comes to a reasonable $1698. More »
