God of War III, moving 1.1 million copies, was the highest profile release in March, and the PS3 exclusive game helped Sony’s system skyrocket 44% in sales during the month. After years of lagging behind the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii, the PS3 seems to be gaining more momentum, as it has increased sales for each of the past 8 consecutive months. More »

Sony’s Ericsson division of cell phones continue with its announcement of the Spiro and Zylo Walkman slider models that are coming out Q3 in select areas of the world. Like all units in the Walkman series, these are fairly small and basic cell phones that focus on music playing. Sony touts the Spiro and Zylo’s FLAC support for audiophiles, but we audiophiles know that the biggest bottlenecks of mobile audio are mostly down to mediocre DACs and headphone amplifiers, not the files, although lower bit-rate MP3s (below 256Kbps) are noticeably compressed when heard through quality earphones. Or at least it is in South Korea. When the Paramount Pictures sequel to the blockbuster Iron Man premiers in South Korea this month, so will LG’s Arena Maxx LU9400 for KT and SK Telecom. Iron Man needs a smartphone that is commensurate with his super-heroism, and the Arena Maxx is (mostly) super. More »

The National Labor Committee has published damning findings against Microsoft, Acer, ASUS, Best Buy, Foxconn, HP, Logitech, and Samsung, whose KYE factory in Dongguan China is documented as being nothing more than a sweatshop for under age workers. KYE has denied the report, while Microsoft is issuing an investigation into the charges. More »

Due to unexpectedly popular demand, the iPad’s launch outside of America has been delayed until the end of May, with pre-orders starting May 10th. Apple managed to deliver half a million units to the States, but because so many Americans have the 3G model pre-ordered, they obtain priority for delivery at the end of this month. More »

OSIM’s uCrown is appropriately named. Businesspeople with offices should get a uCrown head massager that also plays music. If you work in a cubicle, then too bad for you. More »

When the word “professional” is part of a product’s title, it normally makes for an expensive item. OLED is an emerging technology that hopes one day to displace LCD, but right now, most displays of its ilk are in minuscule form (smartphones). Sony’s PVM-740 is a relatively small 7.4″ Organic Light-Emitting Diode monitor with low-resolution: 960×540 maximum, 646×487 in 480i and 480p, and 768×540 in 575i and 576p. More »

Also, the 13″ MacBook Pro’s GeForce 320M is a custom integrated graphics chip designed by NVIDIA specifically for Apple. The main reason why the 13″ model retains Core 2 Duo processors and does not get the Core i5 is because of NVIDIA’s ongoing legal battle with Intel, whose newest chipsets require that integrated graphics be Intel only; therefore, Apple either had to downgrade the 13″ MacBook Pro’s graphics by using an i5 CPU and Intel GPU or keep the old Core 2 Duo chipset and NVIDIA’s far speedier 320M. Since I do not play games on my MacBook, I would have preferred an i5 with Intel graphics, but Apple’s compromise is ideal for decent gaming. More »
