Ryan Stewart’s Adobe Flash 10.1 video demonstration is in fact running off Google’s unreleased Android 2.2 “Froyo” operating system. Not only will the latest Android OS be manifold faster than Eclair 2.1, but it will also have USB tethering and a Wi-Fi hotspot feature.
TechCrunch was given this exclusive information. Ian Douglas, a developer who has Android 2.2 running on his Nexus One, posted benchmarks that show an astounding speed increase of the OS over 2.1. Douglas’ post has been removed, but the damage has been done:
Linpack Benchmarks:
Android 2.1: Approx. 7 MFLOPS
Android 2.2: Approx. 38 MLOPS
Douglas’ version of 2.2 is supposedly far along but will probably be improved even further.
