I expected Apple to refresh its polycarbonate 13″ MacBook when a Vietnamese blog fondled a sealed retail unit that was leaked in advance over the weekend. Still at $999, the laptop has slightly increased clock speeds (2.4GHz) and notably faster graphics (GeForce 320M), which are hampered by the slower shared memory.

Overall, the refresh is long overdue, but Apple’s hands were tied, so to speak, because it had to update the 13″ MacBook Pro before the cheaper MacBook could receive the same treatment. Most consumer laptops in the $1,000 range have Core i5 processors and dedicated graphics, but most of them are 15-inch, with much shorter battery life, and are nowhere near the portability of the slim 13″ MacBook.

- 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- 2GB DDR3 memory
- 250GB hard drive1
- 8x double-layer SuperDrive
- NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics
- Built-in 10-hour battery
