Dell’s stance on the Streak is that it “is a data device first and a voice device second.” The UK will be the first nation to receive the slate Android smartphone, followed by continental Europe and then rest of the globe before the conclusion of summer. Dell is positioning the Streak to be more than a smartphone but small enough to go where the iPad cannot. Do you buy it?

The Streak is Dell’s “entirely new kind of device.” Fortune writes that the smartphone might not be sold with a voice plan but will instead allow users to take advantage of Google Voice’s upcoming Gizmo5 VoIP, enabling people to bypass carriers for calls.

I think that Dell’s strategy is smart. The Streak’s unique features (5″ screen) differentiate it from commonplace smartphones, and its portability, along with voice capability, could attract some consumers away from the iPad. Unfortunately, the Streak’s enormous display significantly lower resolution than the iPad and has the same number of pixels as other high-end Android phones like the HTC Evo 4G, Nexus One, Droid Incredible, etc., all of which can also match the Streak’s 1Ghz Snapdragon processor. The Streak does have a front-facing camera for video chat. Whether the Streak will succeed or fail depends mostly, in my opinion, on how good the touchscreen is. Give users a wonderful multi-media and web-surfing experience similar to the iPad, and Dell has a hit, especially since the Streak includes Flash 10.1.
