MSI is aggressively going after the iPad and will do so with the same strategy that Windows PC vendors have been using effectively for decades: offer variety to cater to more consumers. The Slatebook is a Windows 7 Intel Atom tablet scheduled for Q3. Today, MSI announced its 10″ (1024×600) Wind Pad 100 (which may be the same model) that runs Windows 7 and is an Intel x86 device that has HDMI, wireless, 3G, and a webcam.

I think that I speak for most when I say that MSI’s most enticing slate is the Tegra 2 Google Android unit that was displayed at the beginning of the year. x86 processors cannot match ARM for battery efficiency (how is the Wind Pad 100 going to achieve its 8 hours per charge claim?), and Windows 7 might never be a viable “always on” tablet OS. I suppose that people should not complain about having greater choices, but the Wind Pad/Slatebook could delay MSI’s Android slate, which is what we really want. At $500, the Wind Pad 100 is unremarkable.
