Nokia is also anticipating a massive hit in its global smartphone market share to Google Android handsets and Apple iPhone. Among the four main American carriers, BlackBerry has slipped from the top spot. Sprint’s top seller is the HTC Evo 4G; T-Mobile’s front-runner is the MyTouch 3G Slide; the Droid Incredible and Motorola Droid are kings of Verizon, and the iPhone 4 is obviously AT&T’s darling now.
Analysts believe that Nokia and RIM are going to lose sizable sales to the Android explosion. Apple is also certain to gain market share with its iPhone 4 being the biggest smartphone launch of all time. However, all of the biggest sellers of Android and the iPhone 4 are brand new products, while RIM’s line-up is getting long in the tooth. Its upcoming offerings like the Bold 9800, along with a revamped OS, should give the company plenty of ammunition to remain competitive. In North America, Nokia has been an also-ran for years, and its European dominance is under serious challenge.
