Nowadays almost everybody uses Facebook and Google, and many users download songs and apps on Apple Store. They do it with ease, probably not thinking about the consequences or worrying about their personal information at all. Have you ever thought about it? Below is an info graphic on how much people have shared via social media sites:

Some Facebook users have thought about it and upon that they’ve set their profile to private, so they only share their personal information to their friends, or not at all. But did you know Facebook shares your information with third parties and advertisers so you can get your ‘personalized’ ads throughout the pages? According to Facebook Privacy Policy, “even after you remove information from your profile or delete your account, copies of that information may remain viewable elsewhere to the extent it has been shared with others…“

Google has become a search engine everybody visits almost everyday. You thought this is just a simple site where you don’t have to worry at all? You’re wrong. Google also collects your information and shares it to advertisers, just like Facebook. Now those advertisers know what you are searching, who you are talking to and why you are using the Internet. What surprises me the most is the fact that it doesn’t only scan your searches, but also your email. Yes, even mails sent to you. Gmail users, be careful.

Much like Facebook and Google, Apple also shares private user data to third parties and advertisers. I think after you know how Facebook and Google ads work, you probably know about Apple Store too. It works pretty much the same.

Now it’s up to you if you’ll stop using Facebook, Google and Apple. Or probably stop using the Internet at all? I think that’s the most unlikely thing to happen. I personally will continue using those useful sites. And don’t think they do this secretly, because these facts are actually written in their long Privacy Policy, which you have to agree to before you use their services.
