Steve Jobs and Apple. The unstoppable duo. This CEO has proven again and again that what his company has, other companies just can’t touch. And it seems to ring true for the most part, just look at all the iPod/iPhone lookalikes and knockoffs clogging up the market. But what makes Apple that far out of reach? Here’s three reason why they’re the best, after the break.
1. Product Naming
My ten-year-old brother can list a handful of Apple products off the top of his head. Mac Mini, iTouch, iPod, iPhone—the names just flow out of your head. How many Dell or HP products can you name? Yeah. What Jobs has done here is brilliantly simple. Make over-the-high end products but name them so that everyone will know what an iPad is. Mad simple, but which other company has executed it to Apple’s perfection?
2. Perceived Quality
Honestly, Apple products are far from the best. But if there’s one thing that we’ve learned from Jobs, it’s that market placement is important. Make everyone think your product is the best of the best, and you’ll have Apple fanatics running back to the stores after each iPhone generation is released. I’m talking from experience here, my dad’s one of those “oh my 42-year-old person god, the iPhone 4’s out!”
3. Purdy Designs
And finally, Apple’s designs are like no other. Before the iPod came out, we were playing with boring old MP3s (remember those?), and none of them had the wow factor that Apple introduced. The simplicity of the gadget was insane, but it was oh so cool and soon the iPod became the standard MP3 model. Need I point you to Microsoft’s Zune or the Esolo MP4? But obviously, the original’s better, right?
And there you have it folks. Steve Jobs and Co. still stands at the top and they’ll continue standing there until their “competition” begins to stop scrambling for the low-end market and start marketing some enviable products. Instead of copying Apple, start designing something new and market it off as your own.
Easier said than done, though, don’t you think?
