American Science & Engineering’s Z Backscatter Vans, or ZBVs, are vans moving on the streets with the purpose to scan the contents of vehicles. They ‘bounce a narrow stream of x-rays off and through nearby objects, and read which ones come back.’ Just like those scanners in airports, these vans can indicate objects like explosives, drugs, or even human bodies. Google is reportedly in negotiations with Hollywood Studios regarding a certain pay-per-view movie service for the Internet’s number one video browsing site: YouTube. According to the Financial Times, Google is arguing that “the international appeal of a streaming on-demand movie service” plus YouTube equals big business and big money.
