Looks like the government of Cleveland, Ohio has had enough of the people who don’t recycle. They have announced that their recycling bins will be equipped with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips and bar codes.
What this does is it catches the citizens that don’t bring their recycling bin to the curb for a few weeks, tells the local city workers and then they check out your bins. If they find more the 10% recyclable material in your bin, you get fined $100. The reason why Cleveland government had to resort to RFID recycling bins is because Cleveland loses $30 per ton of garbage that they throw in landfills and they only earn $26 a ton for recyclables.
This can be pretty scary. Sometimes you might just simply forget about recycling. I know some people who don’t know how to speak English well so they do know what recycling is. What do you guys think of this RFID recycling bin?
