Mozilla’s annual “The State of Mozilla” report has just been released, and their numbers for 2009 are impressive indeed. Mozilla reported revenues of about $100 million, which was a more than 30% percent increase from 2008. Given the state of the economy, a revenue loss of about $100,000 is quite impressive indeed, and stems from long-term investments as well. So where does the money come from? Firefox, and their large search deal with Google.

Interestingly enough, Google also serves as a competitor to Mozilla with its browser, Google Chrome, competing against Firefox. Chrome is doing quite well, gaining market share at a breakneck pace, and though both are taking shares from Internet Explorer, Firefox has also slowed down its growth by a significant amount since Chrome was launched.

The report also details Mozilla’s Firefox 4 and how it will “take the browser to the next level”. This version is still in beta testing but should be out shortly. Firefox already boasts more than 400 million total users, over 140 million active daily users, and about 800,000 Firefox 4 beta testers.
Mozilla also outlines how they are planning to emphasize mobile apps, sharing and syncing, and a Drumbeat project to promote the open web.
